OFFENSE REPORT: On March 23, 2005, officers on patrol in an unmarked vehicle, observed a 2005 Dodge Magnum suddenly make a U turn. The officers called for a marked patrol car to make a traffic stop. The officers in the marked vehicle made a traffic stop and made contact with the driver who had no identification on him. The driver told the officers that the car was a rental but his name was not on the rental agreement. Due to the lack of identification of the suspect and his lack of proof that he was renting the vehicle, the officer had the driver exit the vehicle and stand in front of the vehicle. As the officers began to search the suspect, he suddenly broke free and ran. At this point officers began a foot pursuit. During the pursuit the officers gave numerous commands to the suspect to stop. The officers then stunned the suspect with a taser, and took him into custody. Subsequent to his escape attempt, the officers conducted a search of the suspects vehicle and discovered 13.4 grams of a white rock which later tested positive for cocaine. Because the suspect refused to identify himself to the officers he was placed under arrest as “John Doe.” The suspect was then transported to the Clark County Detention Center. A finger print check during the booking process confirmed his true identity as Mark Rivera, with a warrant for parole violation warrant outstanding from California.
