A third Las Vegas physician is being investigated by the Nevada Board of Medical Examiners for his involvement with a Las Vegas outpatient clinic at the center of a hepatitis C outbreak.

Members filed a malpractice complaint against Dr. Clifford Carrol Wednesday. In the report, Carrol is accused of failing to exercise proper skill and diligence during his time at the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada.

Carrol was identified as the gastroenterologist who treated a colonoscopy patient whose hepatitis C was spread to other patients on Sept. 21, 2007.

There has been no decision made yet on whether Carrol's medical license will be suspended, said board Chief Louis Ling.

Carrol faces a medical board hearing June 22.

There are also complaints against the clinic's majority owner, Dr. Dipak Desai, and Dr. Eladio Carrera. They've had their licenses suspended pending an investigation.

Results from an investigation by the Southern Nevada Health District said that from March 2004 to January 2008, the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada reused medical vials and syringes on multiple patients, exposing more than 50,000 people to blood-borne pathogens.

Eight acute cases of hepatitis C have been linked to the exposure, with a ninth case linked to the center's sister facility, the Desert Shadows Endoscopy Center, health officials said. Another 105 cases of blood-borne diseases have been linked to the facilities, but those people could have contracted the disease in other ways, health officials added.

Five nurses recused their licenses in connection with the outbreak.
