Dad's Top Hobby Is TV Time, Survey Says

Survey: Dads Get Slighted Compared To Moms

POSTED: 11:57 am PDT June 13, 2007

How does your dad really want to celebrate Father's Day? A new survey suggests he might be happiest in front of the tube.

Survey: What's Dad's Favorite Hobby?

A survey commissioned by TiVo found that watching TV is the most popular pastime for pops, topping outdoor activities, home improvement and reading. And 75 percent of dads said they are the ones who control the remote when at home.

The survey also found that, compared to mothers' treatment on their special day, dads get slighted on Father's Day.

Eighty-six percent of Americans shell out more money on Mother's Day than they do on Father's Day, and only 51 percent of those surveyed plan on celebrating the holiday at all.

"While our research is a bit tongue and cheek, the point remains clear –- this Father's Day is a great chance to show your dad how much he means to you, be it with a card, a phone call, or even a TiVo box," Katie Ho, vice president of marketing at TiVo, said in a news release.

The survey, which includes responses from 1,000 Americans, found that 30 percent of dads reported that their favorite pastime is watching TV, and 26 percent listed outdoor activities as their No. 1 hobby.
