Listen up!Class is in session.Six sides of steel. That was the common thread Sunday night in St. Louis as Total Nonstop Action wrestling took its Orlando show on the road for "Lockdown," a card in which every match was contested in a steel cage.So what happened? That's why I'm here.
Challenge Match: VKM vs. Mystery Team
What Should Happen:Centerfold Christy Hemme is the manager of the mystery duo, which I guess will be announced at the PPV. VKM -- the former Road Dogg and Billy Gunn -- have been mocking her for weeks, saying women don't belong in wrestling. As for the match, if the mystery team is great they should win. If they're washed-up losers, VKM should win. That was easy.
What Will Happen: I'm going to guess that the mystery team will get the win somehow.
What Did Happen: The mystery team was Seratonin (washed-up), managed by Raven (ditto). They lost. I was expecting more, but I guess theres only so much free-agent talent out there.
Challenge Match: Jackie Moore vs. Gail Kim
What Should Happen: This is supposedly the first cage match to feature women only. I'm not so sure about that, but I'll go along with it. By the way, this is TNA, where women can actually wrestle -- especially Jackie. She's about the best female grappler appearing on free TV these days, and should handle Kim easily.
What Will Happen: The former Miss Tennessee will take it.
What Did Happen: Gail Kim got the pin.
Challenge Match: Austin Starr vs. Senshi
What Should Happen: Wrestling legend Bob Backlund is the special referee in this one. Even though he doesn't like the heel, Starr, if it were up to me I'd have him go nuts and attack the babyface Senshi.
What Will Happen: Starr will win due to Backlund's interference.
What Did Happen: Senshi won due to Backlund's interference.
Challenge Match: Petey Williams vs. Robert Roode
What Should Happen: Two former Team Canada members lock up here. Williams is great, Roode is just OK in my book. He's an agile big man, but nothing spectacular. Williams should take him to school.
What Will Happen: I like Williams to embarrass Roode.
What Did Happen: Roode pinned Petey for the win.
Blindfold Match: "Wildcat" Chris Harris vs. "Cowboy" James Storm
What Should Happen: The former "America's Most Wanted" team continues their feud after Storm smacked Harris in the eye with a beer bottle. Harris has worn an eyepatch ever since. What should happen? The heel should cheat, of course, and make Harris' life even more miserable.
What Will Happen: I'll take Storm in this one.
What Did Happen: Storm won it, but their stupid hoods kept coming off. Terrible match.
Electric Cage NWA Tag Team Title Match: The Latin American Exchange (c) vs. Team 3D
What Should Happen: This is a feud that will not die. These two teams have fought each other in a zillion matches, it seems, with LAX always hanging onto the NWA gold. I'm not so sure what we'll see here. The electrified cage (10,000 volts) seems too gimmicky to me -- I'm not so sure I like it. Wouldn't it be refreshing if the belt was decided once and for all with just a straight wrestling match, with no extras? Heck, you can even make it two out of three falls if you want. For my money, it's time for the heels to cough up the belts to Devon and Ray. The former Dudley's have chased the bad guys long enough.
What Will Happen: I'm going with the upset: Team 3D will win.
What Did Happen: Team 3D got the pin to win their 20th overall tag title (ECW, WWE, ECW, TNA). It's about time.
Xscape X-Division Championship Match: Chris Sabin (c) vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Jay Lethal vs. Shark Boy
What Should Happen: Shark Boy has the greatest mask I've ever seen. For that alone he should be given the X-Division belt. But I'm afraid TNA takes itself a bit too seriously for that too happen. Sabin should win here.
What Will Happen: Sabin survives this convoluted match, and keeps his belt.
What Did Happen: Sabin won the match, and retained his X-belt.
Challenge Match: Jerry Lynn vs. Christopher Daniels
What Should Happen: It's the X-Division pioneer versus The Fallen Angel. Both can put on great matches, and this should be no exception. This could steal the show, but Daniels should get a victory to keep him in the championship hunt -- either for the X-Divison belt or the NWA belt.
What Will Happen: The Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels will win cleanly.
What Did Happen: Daniels won it.
Ten-Man Lethal Lockdown Match: Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe and Sting and Rhino and Jeff Jarrett vs. Christian Cage and Tyson Tomko and A.J. Styles and Scott Steiner and Abyss
What Should Happen: With Jarrett returning as a babyface, this has the potential to be a match of the year if a few things happen. First, the match has to be booked perfectly with a great finish. Second, everyone must perform within their limits. A few weeks ago at "WrestleMania 23," Undertaker and Batista had a great match because they kept the momentum going -- and didn't try to do things outside their comfort zone. That's what has to happen here. If everyone sticks to their strengths, and the match blends together -- it could be great. That's a lot of "ifs," I know, but these guys have been around long enough to pull it off. What should happen? I like the fact that everyone is trying to look good here because they all want a shot at Cage's NWA title -- both the heels and the babyfaces. In the end, it would make most sense for Joe to make Cage submit so he can be first in line for a title shot.
What Will Happen: I'm going to go with Team Angle to get the win, with Samoa Joe making Cage tap out.
What Did Happen: Sting pinned Abyss as Team Angle got the win.
That was the show. For the record, I was five for nine in my predictions -- another better than .500 batting average. Man, I'm the man! Not perfect, but on the road to being so.Speaking of perfection, don't forget to download the "Old School, New School" podcast. This week, it's Episode 27, and you can dowload it RIGHT HERE! This time around we talk great cage matches, Bobby Lashley and much more.
