School District Talks Overtime, Closures

Trustees Meeting To Decide On Overtime Change

POSTED: 12:00 pm PST January 22, 2009
UPDATED: 12:08 pm PST January 22, 2009

Alterations to the overtime process and the potential closure of two schools will top the agenda of two Clark County School District meetings Thursday.

Trustees analyzed the overtime system as a response to the budget cuts requested by Gov. Jim Gibbons. The item will be placed on the agenda for discussion and possible action.

The proposed final amendment would take effect on Feb. 12.

Also on the agenda is the potential closure of Earl B. Lundy and Goodsprings elementary schools. Trustees argue that closing the schools -- which instruct 15 students -- will drop operating costs as well as offer the students a larger variety to their education.

If closed, the Goodsprings Elementary students would become a part of the Sandy Valley Elementary School, and Lundy Elementary School students would be transferred to Indian Springs Elementary School.

To read the rest of the agenda for the meeting, visit the school district's Web site.
