North Dakota is planning a rebate program this spring to help residents replace older, inefficient refrigerators with new Energy Star models.

The state will offer $150 mail-in rebates for full size refrigerators with the replacement of an old full size refrigerator. The program is tentatively scheduled to begin in April 2010 and will last until funds are depleted.

Rebates are limited to one refrigerator per applicant and one per household. Refrigerators must be 7.75 cubic feet or larger to qualify.

Consumers must pre-register for a rebate online at www.ndenergystarrebate.com. North Dakota requires consumers to recycle their old refrigerator to get a rebate.

The program is one of 56 State Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebate Programs, popularly known as Cash for Appliances, that are being set up in the United States and six U.S. territories with the help of federal stimulus money.

North Dakota will receive $615,000 of the nearly $300 million in stimulus funding available nationwide from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

For more information on the Cash for Appliances program, visit the North Dakota Department of Commerce Web site or call 701-328-5300.
