POSTED: 3:10 pm PDT July 24, 2008

(Sports Network) - Wright State University signed head men's basketball coach Brad Brownell to a new six-year contract on Thursday, keeping him with the Raiders through the 2013-14 season.

Brownell, the Co-Coach of the Year in the Horizon League last season, is 44-20 in two years with Wright State, including a 21-10 mark last season. In his first year at the helm, Brownell led the Raiders to a 23-10 mark and an NCAA Tournament berth.

"Brad has done an outstanding job in a short period of time," Wright State athletic director Bob Grant said. "His leadership and commitment to Wright State and our student-athletes have led to unparalleled prosperity on the court as well as in the classroom and in the community. His record of success ranks among the top coaches in the nation and I am certainly pleased to have him leading our program and I know our fans feel the same."

In six years as a head coach, the Evansville, Indiana native owns a 127-60 record. Prior to coming to Wright State in March 2006, Brownell spent four years at UNC-Wilmington, amassing an 83-40 mark and leading the Seahawks to a pair of NCAA Tournaments.
