Abraham Scores 12th-Round KO Of Taylor

POSTED: 7:51 pm PDT October 17, 2009

(Sports Network) - "King" Arthur Abraham scored a 12th-round knockout of Jermain Taylor in a battle of former middleweight champions Saturday night.

Abraham (31-0, 25 KOs) used a big right hand to floor Taylor (28-4-1), who was counted out with six seconds left in the bout, which was part of the Super Six World Boxing Classic round-robin six fighter tournament. The other boxers involved are Andre Ward, Mikkel Kessler, Andre Dirrell and Carl Froch.

Abraham fought four months ago, scoring a 10th-round TKO of Mahir Oral. This time he landed just enough power shots to finish off Taylor.

This was the fourth defeat in the last five bouts for Taylor, who was beaten by Froch via 12th-round TKO in April.

Fighters who win by KO or TKO are given three points, by decision two and they get a point for a draw. Losses don't accumulate points. The four fighters with the highest point total after the group stage will meet in the semifinals with the winners advancing to the title bout.
