Last week it was Madonna's publicist combating rumors of divorce and an affair. Now, the pop singer is speaking out herself.

In an exclusive statement issued to People magazine, Madonna addressed the rumors surrounding husband Guy Ritchie and New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.

"My husband and I are not planning on getting a divorce," Madonna said. "I know Alex Rodriguez through Guy Oseary, who manages both of us. I brought my kids to a Yankee game. I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez. I have nothing to do with the state of his marriage or what spiritual path he may choose to study."

The rumors were sparked by a report in the Times of London newspaper that Madonna had recently visited the same divorce lawyer that represented Paul McCartney and Prince Charles. The Rodriguez controversy was reported by Us Weekly, which claimed Rodriguez, 32, visited the 49-year-old singer in her New York apartment shortly after his wife gave birth to the couple's second daughter.

Madonna and "Snatch" director Ritchie, 39, have been married since 2000.

In the statement to People, Madonna said that over the years she's learned "not to take accusations and the many false reports about me very seriously."

"I also appreciate how fiction and fact seem to be perceived as one and the same by people who read both newspapers and the Internet," she said.
